A DOCTOR’S ADVENTURES

THREE ATTEMPTS TO REACH BRITAIN (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent) (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, May 6. Dr lan Chisholm, of Dunedin, who was in New York at the outbreak of the war, on three occasions attempted to reach Britain for service. He was first torpedoed and picked up from a cargo vessel when en route to England, via Capetown, and was taken back to New York via Canada. He was again torpedoed when travelling in a tanker. He was taken prisoner by the U-boat crew and taken to a prison camp in Denmark. He escaped from the camp, which he described as a hell, and finally landed in Britain, where he is waiting to be called up with the Army Medical Service. Inquiries made in Dunedin last night failed to establish Dr Chisholm’s identity. He did not graduate at the University of Otago.
