RIFLE SHOOTING
KIWI DEFENCE CLUB The Kiwi Defence Rifle Club held an open day on Saturday, when officers and n.c.o.’s of C Company, Cargill Battalion, of the Home Guard were invited to share the facilities of the Pelichet Bay range in a friendly match. Seven shots, all to count (no sighters), were fired at 500 and 600 yards. The light was dull, but fairly even, while there was a “ fishtail ’’ wind which at times was difficult to judge. Some creditable scores were registered by the visitors, who were allowed limited handicaps. Ammunition was provided by the Kiwi Club. The aggregate honours went to the Guardsmen, whose total was 523, and the best scores were recorded by Guardsman W. Mills (32 and 32) 64, Captain T. Henshelwood (30 and 30) 60, Corporal R. Bruce (27 and 29) 56, and Lieutenant H. Brown (25—27—1) 53. The principal scorers for Kiwi, which recorded 521, were Riflemen E. Wills (28 and 30) 58, W. McKeich (32 and 25) 57, A. Begg (27 and 29) 56. and S. Smith (28 and 28) 56.
