MANIOTOTO HOSPITAL

' MEETING OF BOARD A meeting of the Maniototo Hospital Board was held in Ranfurly last week, and was attended by Messrs T. A. Lowis (chairman), W. Howell, B. A. Todd, M. H. Hanrahan, W. C. Davis, and P. Aitken, members of the board, and Dr Eudey, medical superintendent. The chairman referred to the death of Mr Edward Morgan, who had been a member of the board for many years, and had always taken a keen and active interest in its affairs. A motion of sympathy with Mrs Morgan and the family was passed. Reference was also made to the death in an aircraft accident in England of Pilot Officer W. S. Beattie, and the board passed a motion of sympathy with the members t of his family. Doctor's Report The doctor reported that 15 males and 21 females were admitted to hospital in December. Fifteen males and 20 females were discharged during the month, and at the end of December, 13 patients remained in hospital. Six babies were born in the hospital during December. Tenders for the closing-in of * the porch at the men's ward had been called and that of Mr J. Mitchell, amounting to £9B 10s, was accepted. It was in respect of this work that the board had received from a resident of the district, who wished to remain anonymous, a donation of £IOO. The matter of the closing-in of the porches oh the women's and maternity wards was held over in. the meantime. Correspondence A letter was received from the Maniototo County Council suggesting that, for the duration of the war, meetings of the board and the council should be held on the same day./ The suggestion was agreed to. Advice was received from the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee that one of the Maniototo Board's patients had been discharged on December 20. , Letters were received from the. South Otago and Otago Hospital Boards relating to treatment of patients from Maniototo district. Finance The secretary submitted statements of actual receipts and payments for the nine months ended December 31, 1941, compared -with estimated receipts and payments. The figures were as follows, estimates being in parentheses:.—Maintenance: Receipts, £5414 15s 8d (£5179 Is lid); payments, £6495 16s Id (£5481 2s 9d). Capital: Receipts. £674 16s lOd (£584 16s lid); payments, £460 0s 6d (£441 lis 3d). The daily average number of occupied beds for the same period was 15.8. Presentation At the conclusion of the meeting the chairman presented to Dr W. S Eudey, who had been released for military duties, a set of military hair brushes, a gift from the members of the board. Good wishes were extended to him and Dr Eudev suitably replied. The chairman also 'took the opportunity of welcoming Dr Houghton, Dr Eudey's successor.
