WOMEN LORRY DRIVERS
Australian women are rapidly finding themselves on a war footing and with an abundance of war jobs from which to choose. Among them is lorry driving, for which the Government has issued an appeal for women of Australia to offer their services. Women who enrol will be paid award rates when at work and must be prepared to be called up at any time. More than 600 women will be enrolled as officers and airwomen in the Women's Australian Auxiliary Air Force shortly. They will be drawn from all States. The new enrolments will include wireless operators, motor drivers, storekeepers, tailors, stores and general clerks, mess stewards, office orderlies, telephonists and sick quarter attendants. Pay will range from 4s to 6s 4d on enrolment with free uniforms and other clothing, dental and medical attention, living quarters (where available), and a ration allowance.
