FORT CAPTURED
N.Z.E.F. SUCCESS SUPPORT FROM AIR PLANES BATTLE WITH TANKS Utec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 22. The capture of fort Oapuzzo oy «ew Zealand forces, reportea trom oairo, was described Dy the rirmsh united correspondent, Mr Edward Kennedy, as the greatest pitched oattle between planes and tanks that has ever been seen. While the New Zealanders held the wellbattered and bomb-scarred fort, 100 R.A.F. fighters swooped down on German tanks massed further west, raking them with machinegun and cannon fire. The enemy put up an hitense barrage of light flak, and Axis aircraft made one of their first rare appearances in force, but the British planes roared on. Remnants of some German panzer units from Port Capuzzo succeeded in joining forces south of Tobruk, and are consolidating their position. The British garrison at Tobruk, in fighting its way out from the stronghold, has taken many prisoners, half of whom are Germans and the other half rtalians. Its task was made extremely precarious owing to the ivesence of minefields about a mile deen.
