Black Bard was always well placed in the High-weight Handicap and two furlongs from home ran up to the leaders. Then came Georgia and Great Swoop. Boaform got the best jump-out in the Flying Handicap and was never headed, winifing by three lengths from Fleet Street, who was five lengths in front of Spanish Lad. At the half mile Colonel Rouge had run up to Boaform. with Fleet Street and Sea Lady following across the top. Boaform and Colonel Rouge, two lengths clear, led Into «the straight from Fleet Street. Boaform, going easily, drew away for a comfortable win from Fleet Street, who beat the others just as easily. At the end Of two furlongs Phalanx dislodged the rider, M. O. Hood, but he was not hurt The Southland Cup resulted in a clear cut win for the little fancied Fidelis, who came from a long way back in the last two furlongs to win decisively by half a length from another little fancied starter, Strip. Boswell and Aravane were the early leaders and they were joined by Heidelberg with half a mile to go. Into the straight Heidelberg held charge, with Strip and Fidelis asserting themselves, and Boswell and Aravane beaten off. Fidelis finished ton strongly for Strip arid won going away, with Heidelberg tiring in third place Aravane was fourth, and then came Wild Career, with Boswell a bad last RACING IN AUSTRALIA LUCRATIVE WINS ECLIPSE STAKES (Rec. 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE. ,Nov. 23. . 'December 26, 27.—Taranaki J.C. December 26. 27.—Dunedin J.C. Feilding Rehandicaps.—Following are the Feilding rehandicaps:—Flying Handicap. Sunny Knight 8.12. KoWhaj Hack Handicap, Te Oriko 8.13. Improved Hurdler.—A vastly improved hurdler on his display at the recent Te Rapa meeting is Glen Connel. One of the speediest horses recently put to hurdling he looks like having a bright future No Excuses'. —Asked il he had any excuse to make for Beau Vite's defeat in the Melbourne Cup, trainer F. McGrath replied: "If Skipton and Son of Aurous hadn't started. Beau Vitc would have won." Boswell. —Boswcll was one ol the leaders in the early stages of the Southland Cup, but he was beaten a long way from home, and finished well back. It is reported that. he is unlikely to do much more racing. Suspended Jockey.—The Sydney jockey E. McMenamtn, who was suspended for two months for crossing, is credited with saying that the enforced holiday cost him £3OOO. He must have expected a large sum in bonuses, as he would not have earned anything like that in riding fees Alert at the Barrier.—L. J. Clutterbuck is particularly alert at the barrier, and usually his mounts get out smartly. This was the case with Boaform on Saturday, and the Balboa mare never looked like being beaten. Queensland Cup Winner.—When Bucolic a brother to Rogilla, won the Queensland Cup, he completed doubles worth £IO,OOO to his owner, Mr W. T. Kelly. The first leg was Commonsense. winner of the Brisbane Handicap. This nice sum was secured at an outlay of £2B, some of Mr Kelly's bets being £2OOO to £3, £2OOO to £4 10s, and £6OO to £1 10s. After Commonsense had won he refused 1o lay off any of his wagers. Battledress's Mission.—The New Zealand Derby winner, Battledrcsn, is being treated to a short spMI before being got ready for the Auckland Racing Club's meeting. Ho will probably have a race in the Christmas Handicap on Boxing Day to sharpen him up for the Great Northern Derby, which will be his special mission. Battledress is the fust horse Mr A. J. Mack has owned, and it looks as if he has a dual Derby winner in the Posterity gelding. It is real beginner's luck. Strip.—Strip . was tried out over a middle distance in the Southland Cup and ran a good race. He is a good miler, and as he is by Valkyrian from Dismantle, a mare by Tractor who traces back to Traducer, there is no bar in his pedigree to success over a mile and n-quarter. Outsize in Dividend.—Forest Glen had only £9 invested on his chance on the win totalisator when he won the Hack Steeplechase at the recent Te Rapa meeting, and his lucky backers collected moie than a century and a-half.

TROTTING NOTES By Sentinel FIXTURES November 29. December I.—Forbury Park T.C. December 6.—New Brighton T.C. December 26.—Ashburton T.C. December 26.—Gore T.C. December 26. 27.—Westport T.C. December 27.—Winton T.C. December 27. 30 31.—Auckland T.C. Forbury Park Acceptances.—Acceptances for the first day of the Forbury Park meeting are due to-day. The Early Favourite.—Bronze Eagle still holds pride of place so far as early favouritism is concerned for "the principal event at Forbury Park on Saturday. Improved Form—Coquette has been showing improved form and will not lack support 'in 'the Churchill Handicap i on Saturday Carrying His Age Well.— Among the best straight-out trotters ever raced in New Zealand was Young Blake, who is spending the evening of his days on a North Otago sheep station. He Is now 22 years of age. but is carrying his years well. Change of Stables.—The Auckland trainer C. Moran has purchased on behalf of a patron of his stable from Mr W J. Smith, of Upper Riccarton, the four-year-old gelding BUI Scott, by U Scott from Sarella. Bill Scott has been working well at Addington. but his racing experience was confined to the Waiau and Hurunui Christmas holiday meetings. He appears to be a very useful pacer. Oats of Idleness.—Golden Direct is eating the oats of idleness in North Otago at present and appears to be thriving on the treatment. It is unlikely, however, that he will ever see a race track again. Back to Form.—Fremont has apparently returned to something like his best form and he is sure to have a following in his next outing. At Forbury Park last January he beat Gold Bar over a mile and three furlongs, after giving Mm a start at the home turn. In the pievious season he finished second in a two-mile event, beating Icevus, Zincali. and others. Last season he also finishea second to Zincali in the Wellington Cup. and this season, at the Metropolitan August meeting, he won over a mile and a-half from Mankind. Years ago Fremont took records of 2min 7 l-asuc and 4min 19 4-ssec. Australian Pacer.—The brilliant Australian pacer Springfield Globe will be one of the attractions at the Forbury Park meeting. On the first day, however, the Globe Derby horse has a big field in front of him in the Churchill Handicap and so may be racing under a double handicap. Channel Fleet.—The pacing gelding Channel Fleet has been bought by Mr E G Bridgens, president of the Auckland Trotting Club, and has joined F. J. Smith's stable at Takanini (says the Star-Sun). Channel Fleet began his career early last season under J. B. Pringle, and won at his third start, which was at Greymouth in January last. He was beaten by Oxford Scholar on the second day of the meeting, and then went to Wellington, where he won two races. In his next nine starts, a second was the best he could do, but early In the present season he began to make further progress, and won the principal event on the first day of the Greymouth Trotting Club's spring meeting, and ran second to Scapa Flow in the Victoria Handicap on the first day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's recent meeting. In that race he registered 4min 28 4-ssec for the two miles. The sectional times were: Halfmile lmin 9sec, mile 2min 14 3-ssec, mile and a-half 3min 23sec, mile and threequarters 3min 56sec, and the concluding two furlongs 32 4-ssec. Channel Fleet is a six-year-old gelding by Man o' War from Needles, and should N do well in the North Island. RICCARTON NOTES STABLE PLANS (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 22. The conditions were pleasant for training work this morning. The No. 1 grass track and the plough were in use, and there was some useful galloping by horses engaged at Ashburton, though little in the way of serious trials. Trainers have brought back a number of the horses that were given a few days' rest after their recent racing, and there will be more interest in the work next week. L. J. Ellis and C. T. Wilson, who went north this week for the Levin meeting, returned home after riding on the first day, as convenient transport would not have been available had they remained till the conclusion of the meeting. M. Conza will take Roy Bun north next week, to compete in the hurdle races at Feilding. R. J. Hawes has been engaged to ride him. The latest addition to M. Conza's team is the six-year-old mare. Caretaker, by Lord Warden from the Wlnkie mare, Colinette. She did no racing last season, and as a four-year-old she had five starts without showing any form. Mr H. Linley, of Wellington, has taken over the three-year-old filly Lone Bird, by Defoe from Chance Bird, on lease from Mr, J. H. Grigg. She will remain in G. Ridgway's stable and she will make her first appearance in the new colours at Ashburton, where L. J. Ellis will ride her. Lone Bird has not done much racing, but she has had one win, showing promise of going on to useful form. Pride of Campsie, a four-year-old mare by British Empire, has resumed work under the care of R. Register. She showed speed early this year, but after having one race, at Motukarara in March, she had to be spelled, owing to a chill. Ackemma, formerly in A. S. Ellis's team, has had a change of owners, and she has gone to Gore, where J. R. Cochrane will train her. She is a five-year-old mare by Irish Lancer from Morse Signal, and she has shown useful form as a staying hack. Mrs J. Campbell is now training Nightglass, who has not raced up to expectations for some time, though she has shown great speed in her track gallops. It is probable she will do her holiday racing on the West Coast circuit. J. C. Tomkinson has Synthetic back in his team, and as he had done a lot of exercise before he returned to training, he should be ready to resume racing in a few weeks.
