HILL CLIMB
THIRTY RIDERS IN MOTOR CYCLE EVENTS A motor-cycle hill climb was held at Bethune's Gully road by the Automobile Association (Otago) on Saturday afternoon. The road surface was greasy and some skilful riding was called for. There were 30 entrants, including seven from Christchurch and one from Invercargill. This was the first time that the Christchurch riders had competed on the hill, and naturally they were more careful than the local men. K. J. Munro (Invercargill), a persistent trier, again met' with misfortune, as his engine stalled on the second run in the big race. The previous record of lmin 13sec, registered by G. Haggitt in 1939. remains unbeaten. The placings and times in the various classes were as follows: — Class I, Novices' Race, Unlimited (open to competitors who have never been placed)—C. J. Wright (Norton) and E. Faithful (Triumph), equal, 1. Time, lmin 21 2-ssec; L. H. Pettit (8.5. A.), lmin 22sec, 2. Class II (up to 250 c.c.).—N. R. Denniston (Rudge), lmin 31 2-ssec. 1; D. F. Jenkins (8.5. A.), lmin 37 3-ssec, 2; I. Gunn (Triumph), lmin 39 l-ssec, 3. Class 111 (up to 350 c.c.).—E. Faithful (Triumph), lmin 20sec, 1; L. H. Pettit (8.5. A.), lmin 21sec, 2; E. R.
