As many of the male members were on active seryice, if was decided not to hold the senior men's championships for the duration of the war. The shortage of experienced swimmers naturally had affected the club in its engagements, and it had been found that, apart from the country clubs' championships, no outside meetings could be held It was also unfortunate that no learn-to-swim campaign could be held. A well-balanced team of 17 swimmers from the club had taken part in the country clubs' championships held in Dunedin on January 25. and was successful in winning the shield. The winners of the various club competitions were:—Senior women, Miss K Ingles; intermediate boys, F. Rooertson; intermediate girls, Miss A. Wilson; junior boy*. R. McCone; junior girls. N. Uttley; vice-president's cup. R. J. Lowery; McCulloch Cup.*. Waitaki Boys' High School (School 21 points, and Club 10); Herbert Smith Trust Cups—Miss B. Newton (Beginners' Race), E. Nightingale (Life Saving). R. McFie (50 Yards. Breaststroke); Miller Diving Cup.' Miss N. Nightingale and Miss A. Wilson (equal). New records during the season were as follows:—50 Yards Junior Boys' Breaststroke, 43 l-ssec (R. McCone); 50 Yards Junior Girls - Breaststroke. 46 2-ssec (N. The committee returned its thanks to those who had helped with the carnivals and other activities of the club during the season, especially the-timekeepers and other officials, and also expressed its appreciation ol the assistance given to the club by Messrs Thompon and Peat, delegates to the Otago Centre, and Mr Leslie, custodian of the baths. BOATING CLUB SOCIAL AIR GUNNER HONOURED The president of the Oamaru Boating Club (Mr D. Martyn) was in the chair at a social in honour of Air Gunner D. Marshall, held on Saturday night in the clubrboms. Many members and supporters were present, and a short toast list was honoured. The president, proposing the toast of the guest of the evening, spoke of the many services rendered to the club by Air Gunner Marshall over a considerable number of years, and, in making a presentation to the guest, extended all good wishes for the future. The cluo captain (Mr C. Rennie). also referred to Air Gunner Marshall's capable work as secretary to the club, and wished him the best of luck. Air Gunner Marshall has been in training at Levin.

The Waipahi is due on Tuesday, October 21. to load for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth, via ports. The Waiplata is due about November 3 to load for Wellington and Auckland, via Timaru and Lyttelton. AMUSEMENTS Majestic Theatre. Comedy reigns supreme to-night, when "Sailors Three,' a story of the British Navy, will commence its season. Tommy Trinder is leading sailor. Opera House.—An arson mystery-drama entitled " The Great Swindle" will be shown to-night and Wednesday, together with the hilarious comedy. " Meet the Chump," featuring Hugh Herbert. PALMERSTON BOWLING CLUB The opening of the Palmerston Bowling Club took place on Saturday. The president. Mr W B. Galloway, thanked the visitors from the district clubs for their attendance. Owing to the petrol shortage, visitors from Dunedin and Oamaru could not be present. Mr Galloway declared the green open, and Mrs Morrison, president of the Ladies' Club, rolled up the first bowl. A vote of thanks was given to the ladies for their help during the past season, both socially and financially.
