PENINSULA COUNTY
MEETING OF COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the Peninsula County Council was held yesterday, when there were present Crs J. J. Nyhon (chairman), J. Hellyer, W. Sturmer, T. S. Edmonds, N. W. Aitken, M. Geary, J. W. Harbrow. and D. J Rutherford.
A petition was received from a number of residents of Macandrew Bay asking that an unused and dilapidated crib which was unsightly and unhealthy should be demolished. —The matter was referred to the Health Department. The area stall officer wrote complaining that stray cattle on the roads in the vicinity of Taiaroa Heads and Harrington Point were a source of danger to the traffic.—lt was reported that the ranger already had the matter in hand. A letter was received from the National Service Department offering to give any help possible with regard to the Emergency Precautions Scheme.— It was decided to write asking for the necessary authority for wardens in the various districts. The oil fuel controller wrote intimating that the reduction of petrol must stand as it was.—Received. Permission was granted to Mr J. is. Blackie to install a septic tank on Mrs Simpson’s property at Waverley. The New Zealand Counties' Association wrote asking the Peninsula Council to communicate with the Minister of Transport protesting against the recommendation to put an additional tax on each gallon of petrol used by heavy traffic vehicles.—lt was decided to support the New Zealand Counties’ Association’s request, and to write lo the Minister of Transport. The ranger’s report and the report of the traffic inspector were adopted. Accounts amounting to £1196 4s were passed for payment.
