ST. HILDA’S BAZAAR
FUNCTION WELL PATRONISED The annual bazaar of St. Hilda’s School, held yesterday afternoon in the school hall, was opened by Miss Blackmore, the principal. There was a large attendance of parents and friends, who patronised the bright and well-filled stalls. The setting represented a South Sea Island scene, each stall’s decoration contributing towards the tropical effect. Havelock House was in charge- ot the produce stall, those responsible being Miss Fitchett. Irelle Hore Pamela Sinclair. Patricia Parata, Ann Mackenzie, and Rutn Brndrick. The sweet stall was managed bv Lawrence House members —Misses Ainge, Cunliffe. and Patton—also Shirley Cooper, Pauline Fulton, and Enid Burgess, who disposed of sweets, drinks, and waffles. Flowers and lavender were sold by Miss Farquharson. Marian Dawson, Elizabeth Fulton. Virginia Haggitt and Mallory Bovd, of Nelson House. Wellington House had charge of the work stall, which was well patronised, those officiating being Misses Bragg, Beamish, and Shaw, with Rachel Price, Patricia Rantln. Janet Cogan, and Betty Trenwith. The Old Girls’ Association added largely to the funds with its attractive, we 1stocked delicatessen. Members of the association in charge of this stall weie Mesdames Barling, Fraser, Gray, and Paterson and Misses Blyth Mondy. Colma Falconer, and Nola McAdam. In addition to these stalls, Mrs R. Harris and friends furnished another work stall, the proceeds from which established the basis of a fund for the purchase of a seboo epidiascope. Parents and friends enjoyed the opportunity of visiting the newlydecorated cubicles, where the furniture and fittings have been painted in pastel shades, and each room has wardrobe curtains and counterpanes to match. A concert programme was presented in the evening, as follows: —-Junior singing class, songs of the countries of the Empire; piano solos. Sheelagh Thompson and Gillian Soper: play, “The Willow Pattern Plate" Standards I and II; French song ‘ Les Enfants et les Amoureux. Form II; recitation. " Lines and Squares (A. A. Milne). Margaret Cunliffe; senior singing class Nocturne (three parts) and Old French Carol (with descant); Frencn recitations Le Reve d‘ Athalie.” Marian Dawson and “La Chante,” Rachel Price; piano solo, Adagio Cantabile (Beethoven). Joan Barclay; play, “ The Mad Hatter s Tea Party,” Form ll—Sheelagh Thompson (Alice). Gillian Soper (March Hare), Jose Chalmers (Dormouse), and Audrey Smith (Mad Hatter): piano solo. Gavotte. Enid Burgess: senior verse-speaking choir “Today ” (Kipling) and extract from “ Tolanthe ” (Sullivan).
