FREE FRENCH PILOT
TWO DARING ATTACKS ENEMY PLANES DESTROYED .'».■■ (Rec. 10 p.m.) : RUGBY, Sept. 16. A Free French pilot's appetiteraising attacks are described by the Air Ministry which tells how eight men working on a JuhMrs>&|'a,t' the edge of a French aerodrome at dawn to-day heard the roar of an engine, and, looking up, they saw a Spitfire diving down on them with its guns firing. One leapt into the air and fell on the ground as though shut. Another put both hands to his head and staggered. " I think I hit him," said the Spitfire pilot, " but I know I got the Junkers for it burst into flames." The Free Frenchman was congratulated on getting the Junkers for breakfast, and a few hours later he was again congratulated—this time for getting a Messerschmitt 103 for lunch. He had'volunteei-ed for another patrol and came across Messerschmitts: One was separate I from the rest and the Frenchman pounced on it from behind. Ths Messerschmitt dived vertically and caught fire just before crashing into the sea. "You ought to have worked up a good appetite for lunch," someone said to him afterwards. " Yes," he replied, " that was the idea."
