OBITUARY

MR L. C. BUIST Mr L. C. Buist, whose death occurred last week, was born at Opotiki, in the Bay of Plenty district, in 1878, and received his education there. After leaving school he was apprenticed to the carpentering trade and later commenced building and contracting on his own account. He retired from the building and contracting business in 1926, and later became associated with his brother-in-law in the conduct of the business of Messrs J. Lindsay and Co. Mr Buist was a very old member of the St. Kilda Bowling Club, which he joined in 1906. He was a keen and capable bowler and was a member of the winning rirtk at the Dominion Bowling Association tournament held in Dunedin in 1930. He was president of the St. Kilda Bowling Club in 1936. He also acted as a selector, and took a very keen interest in the social activities of the club. He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Kate Lindsay. SIR ISIDORE SALMON LONDON, Sept. 16. The death has occurred of Sir Isidore Salmon. M.P. Sir Isidore was honorary catering adviser to the War Office, and it was on the basis of his report in 1938 that the great army cooking organisation, under which 96 centres have trained 60.000 cooks, was built up. Sir Isidore Salmon, who was born in 1876, was managing director of J. Lyons and Co., and was honorary adviser on catering to the British Army. He had been Conservative member for Harrow since 1924.
