A large yarding of store cattle was composed principally of steers, two or three pens being from the Lakes District, and these sold in keen competition. Best four-year-old bullocks showing condition and breeding made up to £ll 17s 6d; good three-year-olds up to £lO 10s; two and two and a-half-year-olds, from £7 to £8 10s. Cows and heifers sold at late rates. A small yarding of dairy cows met a good demand for good close to profit sorts, but backward and low-conditioned cows were hard to sell.

The entry of vealers was a small one, and competition was keen for all classes Best quality made up to £6 10s. There were 1784 sheep penned against 1950 last week. The entry was made up principally of ewes, and prime heavy wethers were.in short supply. On account of outside competition the sale was a keen one throughout and values for wethers were from Is to Is 6d a head better than last week, while ewes showed arj appreciation of Is 6d to 2s per head. Hoggets were in short supply and met with a keen sale, the best making to 34s 6d, while, good, average sorts sold from 25s 6d to 28s 6d. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 40s 3d; >prime wethers 35s to 37s 6d; medium wethers, from 32s 6d to 345; light wethers, from 28s prime maiden ewes, to 32s 6d; extra prime heavy ewes, to 30s: prime heavy ewes, 25s to 265; medium ewes, 21s to 23s 6d: light ewes, from 18s. An entry of three spring lambs came forward, the quality of which was very good. These sold in keen competition the top price being 49s 6d. A medium yarding of 142 fat pigs was forward. The sale was a keen one throughout, baconers showing an improvement of 7s to ; 8s a head on last week, while porkers were from 4s to 5s per head dearer. Best baconers made up to £5 10s. and porkers realised up to £3 16s. . The 110 store pigs offered met with a firm demand, values being a shade better than the previous sale. Good slips made up to 30s, while suckers realised from 20s to 255.
