NEED FOR THRIFT

A warning that' there was an everincreasing need for thrift by the whole community was given by the chairman of the Commercial Bank of Australia, Mr J. L. Webb, at the bank's recent annual meeting in Melbourne "A great responsibility rests upon every member of the community to refrain from purchasing unnecessary goods," he said. " Failure to do so will inevitably result in a substantial rise in the cost of living, with all its attendant evils and hardships to those sections of the people at present in receipt of fixed incomes. We cannot afford to use our financial resources wastefully. In the practice of thrift will be found the solution to many vexatious and serious problems of today and the future."
