CENTRAL OTAGO

CLYDE Bowling.—The annual meeting of the Otago Central Bowling Centre was held at Clyde on Saturday, the president (Mr W. A. Harlow) occupying the chair. The following delegates were present:—Messrs / R. E. Austin, R. Congalton (Cromwell), J. Leslie, J. Parsons (Bannockburn), L. A. Jelley (Wanaka), W. K. George (Clyde), E. Russell, W. Hewitt (Alexandra), F. Laloli, S. Grant (Roxburgh), 11. Armitage, W. Mosley (Moa Flat), W. Lennon, E. Read (Omakau), W. Hinton (Naseby), W. Russell (Queenstown), and J. L. Davidson (Ranfurly and Middlemarch). The report and balance sheet disclosed a satisfactory position in all branches of the centre's activities. Sympathetic reference was made to the death during the season of Mr H. A. Tamblyn, a past president. The following officers were elected for the 1941-42 season:—President, Mr F. A. Laloli (Roxburgh): vice-presidents—senior, Mr E. Russell; junior, Mr J. Leslie; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. L. Davidson; auditor. Mr W. K. George; selector. Mr J. L, Davidson; executive—Messrs W. K. George, R. E. Austin, H. T. Wilkinson, W. Hewitt and W. A. Harlow. Roxburgh was selected as the official green. The Miller's FliJt Club advised that it would not be taking part in the shield fixtures. Permission was granted to several clubs to hold their annual tournaments, while the Cromwell Club was authorised to hold a fours tourney on Labour Day. It was decided to revert to the sectional scoring system. The combined official opening of the Cromwell. Bannockburn, Clyde and Alexandra Clubs will be held on Saturday, October 18, at Cromwell. Slight alterations were made to the Captain Jolly Memorial Cup rules. Rugby Football.—Earnscleugh defeated Clyde on Saturday by 10 points to 8. Clyde scored two tries in the first half, both by J. Hollows, one being converted by W. Wright. Earnscleugh, however, did better in the second spell, scoring two tries, both of which were converted by D. Heenan. A team from Cromwell will play at Clyde next, Saturday. The proceeds from these matches will be given to the Soldiers' Parcels Fund. Soldiers' Farewell Committee.—Mr H. E. Stevens presided at thi annual meeting of the Soldiers' Farewell Commitee. The report and balance sheet for the past year were presented and a new committee elected. It was stated that 24 men had left the town, and each had been presented with a suitable token of goodwill from the citizens. Mrs S. Smith 2; Mr L. Fountain 1, Mr R. Hendry 2. LAWRENCE Magistrate's Court.—At the monthly sitting of the Magistrate's Court, held in the courthouse on Monday afternoon, Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M., presided. James Watson was charged with failing to make payments in respect of a maintenance order in favour of his wife, Lillian Watson. The arrears under the order totalled £416. He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on payment of 10s a week arrears and £1 a week current maintenance. The defendant applied for a reduction of the maintenance order of £2 per week in favour of his wife, and also for remission of the arrears under the order. The magistrate reduced the order frcm £2 a week to £l. and reduced the arrears to £so.—The Riverside Sluicing Company, Ltd., was granted the surrender of a special alluvial claim and a tailr?ce.— The application of William Gordon Harris for a renewal of a licence for a water race at Roxburgh was granted for 42 years.—James Bell made application to surrender a special alluvial claim and an extended alluvial claim, and the application was granted.—The mining recistrar proceeded against Walter Leonard Hughes on a claim for arrears of rent on special dredging claims and forfeiture of claims. The ease was adjourned. Personal.—Mr W. Hughes, of Hclcnsville (Auckland) is spending a holiday in Lawrence. —The local horticulturist. Mr T. H. Clark, has been appointed judge of the daffodil sections of the Invercargill, Clinton and Owaka shows. OMAKAU Women's Golf. —ln the semi-final of the Omakau Golf Club championship (women's) Miss B. Butcher defeated Miss T. Alexander at the nineteenth'. Miss Butcher will meet the winner of the match between Miss C. Harvey and Miss J. Harvey in the final. Miss C. Harvey beat Mrs Seddon in the semi-final of the President's Trophy, and plays Miss B. Butcher in the final. Rugby Football.— A match between ths Tapanui and Matakanui senior, fifteens will be played at Omakau on Saturday. ; Homa Guard. The next Home Guard parade will be held at Omakau on Monday evening, not on. Saturday, as previously announced. The date.of the next half-day parade will bet decided on Monday.
