THEFTS BY LAND AGENT EIGHTEEN MONTHS' DETENTION (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 17. On eight charges of theft and four of false pretences, William John Spratt, aged 53, a land agent, was sentenced to 18 months' reformative detention by Mr Justice Northcroft in the Supreme Court to-day. The full list of offences to which Spratt pleaded guilty comprised one charge of common theft of £34 19s; 18 charges of theft by failing to account fbr sums under £SO, totalling £348 15s 3d; eight charges of theft by failing to account for sums over £SO, totalling £1553 lis 3d; 11 charges of false pretences by borrowing on securities already mortgaged, sums totalling £IOOO. The entire amount involved was £2937.
