Ruatiti—The Limond gelding Ruatiti Is to be tried over hurdles. His form this season includes three wins on the flat. Cymric—On the West Coat Cymric has been racing well under big weights, and should be in favour at the Amberley meeting. Back to Business.—H. Hibberd, M. Caddy, P. Spratt, and I. Walther are back to business at Riccarton after completing three months' Territorial training. Arctic Dawn.—The three-year-old Arctic Dawn, by Defoe from Aurora Borealis, is considered to be the smartest hack at Riccarton. Spendthrift.—ln a school with Rifle Range over eight fences Spendthrift gave his best display up to date. Publicity.—The Americans pay for publicity. The Agua Caliente Club paid 1000 dollars to get Phar Lap to canter down the straight, and it paid the club handsomely. Retrogression.—The Magnus gelding Retrogression, is training on, and should soon improve on his third to Rawhamai and Lady' Derby in the Gimcrack Handicap run at Riccarton. Royal Lancer.—According to track reports, Royal Lancer is being kent busy and will probably start favourite for the Awarua Handicap, in which his weight may be reduced by an apprentice allowance. I An Appeal—The owner of Islay Downs, Mr W. D. McLeod, the horse who won the Wallace Handicap on the second day of the Riverton Easter meeting and was disqualified for interference with other horses in the race, has appealed against the. decision of the club's Judicial Committee. The appeal will be heard by the District Committee this evening. Additions.—The two-year-old Scottish Daile, by Foxbridge—Drama, is to rejoin the F. D. Jones stable. He cost Mr J R. McKenzie 400 guineas and was put aside after being handled. The same owner's yearling by Mr Standfast—Legality is also to be placed in training. Lady Derby.—According to some unofficial opinions Lady Derby • finished in front of Rawhamai at Timaru. She will be meeting him on lib better terms at Amberley, but whatever the result it will not prove anything in connection with ihe Timaru meeting. Guilder.—The Paper Money mare Guilder, who is engaged at Amberley, has not yet appeared this season. Last year she won twice in four starts. At her second start Guilder won at Amberley with B.IOJ in lmin 12 4-ssec, and in her last start won at Timaru with 7.12 in lmin 13 4-ssec. Guilder is now seven years old and was got by Paper Money from Dutch Courage, by Nassau. TROTTING NOTES By Sentinel FIXTURES May 3.—Oamaru T.C. May 10.-Waikato T.C. May 10. 12.—Forbury Park T.C. May 17, 19.—Nelson T.C. May 24.—Ashburton T.C. May 24. 28 —Auckland T.C. Southern Support.—Thirty Southland horses have" been nominated for the Forbury Park meeting. Sandiways.—lt is understood that J. Bryce, jun.. will drive Sandiways in the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes. Open Race.—The saddle race at Oamaru is apparently regarded as fairly open as Bankstock, Refund, Channel Fleet and Jerry Parrish are all fancied. I At Oamaru.—Mounts at Oamaru are:— Jerry Parrish, D. C. Watts; Refund, G. Collfnson; Welcome Stranger, H. Williams; Gyrate, J. McLennan, jun., and Bankstock, D. M. Kerr. A Classic Winner.—The West Australlan Trotting Derby has been won by Lin's Relic, a filly measuring over 16 hands. She was sired by Antique (Author Dillon —Sea Spray). Author Dillon was by Harold Dillon from Authoress, and Sea Spray by Wildwood Jr. from Wild Wave. Both Authoress and Wildwood Jr. were by Wildwood, from the famous brood mare. Thelma.

Interesting Record—Mollle's Gauntlet, a trotter with 10 wins to her credit in Victoria and New South,Wales, has an interesting record. She had two foals, both of which have won at the pacing gait. Sold to a horse dealer for £2O, she was worked in a gig before being passed on at £l7. Her new owner used her as companion in barrier practice for another trotter, and as she failed to breed again she was put into work for racing.

Starwyn.—The imported stallion, Starwyn, was amongst the prize-winners at the Royal Show, held in Sydney. It is interesting to note that Starwyn was imported from America and raced here for several seasons, and yet he does not appear in the Trotting Stud Book. The reason is that the Stud Book has not been published since 1934. Pacing Power.—The Jack Potts colt Pacing Power will probably start favourite for the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes. He went a mile at Timaru in 2min 16 3-ssec. His dam, Free Advice, has a record of 4min 21sec, and was got by Blue Mountain King—lntaglio, by Logan PointerCameos, by Galindo—Thelma. Blue Mountain King "was got by Ribbonwood— Donnesse, by Don Cleve—Lazy, By EraMiss Harold, by Childe Harold—Nellie, by Fusilier, a son of Musket and Yatterlna. Pacing Power has a pedigree well fortified with thoroughbred blood, of which he inherits three strains through Ribbon - wood, another through Fusilier, and one more through Thelma.

Successful Appeals.—The fact that successful appeals can be lodged against decisions of a Judicial Committee suggests that occasionally something is lacking in connection with the original investigation. Additional evidence was supplied in connection with C. King s appeal, and before an Important decision is made every avenue of evidence should be searched and not unearthed after punishment has been suffered. It seems now that King failed to call material evidence at the original hearing, but may not have been aware that it could be obtained. In connection.with the appeal, the secretary of the Ashburton Trotting Club wrote as follows to the Trotting Association:— " My Judicial Committee is of the opinion that the new evidence offered by J. B. Pringle materially alters the case, and it is to be regretted that King did not call Pringle before the committee in the first instance when asked whether he wanted to call any further evidence. After reading Pringle's evidence and also having heard him. the Judicial Committee has decided that the charge against King cannot be upheld." RICCARTON NOTES AMBERLEY FINALS (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, May 1. The outside of the trial grass track was slow for the work at Riccarton this morning, when horses engaged at Amberley provided all the interest. Muffler took lmin 56 2-ssec for nine furlongs—a useful effort, after doing the first three in 37 3-ssec. Benevolent and Prudent Prince were on terms over the first half-milo in 50 l-ssec, but the former drew away in the final stages to complete a mile easily in lmin 45sec. SOUTHERN NOTES (Special) INVERCARGILL, May 1. The final gallops by the horses with engagements at the Southland Racing Club's winter meeting on Saturday were carried out at Invercargill this morning in overcast and very cold weather, and the going was on the soft side, though improving slightly. All the fast work was done on the course proper 18 feet out from the rails, and the most pleasing gallops were those recorded by Royal Lancer, Noko. and Colonel Rouge over a mile.

Colonel Rouge and Noko were together at the end of a mile in lmin 49 2-ssec, the first four in 55 l-ssec and the last four in 54 l-ssec. Colonel Rouge made most of the running, but Noko appeared to have more in reserve at the finish. Southern Sail and Sea Lady took lmln 54sec to run a mile, the last four in 57 4-Ssec.

Spendthrift did half-pace work over a round, and then, came home the last half-mile of a mile in company with Astral Flame in 53 l-ssec, the full mile in lmln 54 3-ssec.

The steeplechasers Ballybrit and Rifle Range ran a mile in lmin 53 2-ssec. and Ballybrit was pulling double oyer the concluding stages. Heidelberg had his neck in front of Wild Career at the end of a mile In lmin 51 3-ssec, the last four in 55sec Royal Money and Anglo-French ran tne last four furlongs of seven in 55 2-ssec, with Royal Money finishing under a nice hold. Gold Robe ran four furlongs comfortably in 55 3-ssec, and Music Hall, who has not been doing well, was let off with a sprint down the straight. Royal Chorus was doing it better than Sailing Lady at the end of six furlongs in lmin 21 l-ssec. the first two furlongs in 25 4-ssec. Ackemma was too good for Lucky Feather over a mile in lmin 50 l-ssec. the first four in 53 l-ssec and the last four in 57sec. Ackemma could have done better, but Lucky Feather was again stopping badly, and his wind trouble has certainly a good hold of him now. Royal Lancer was not extended to beat Waitoru over a mile in lmin 49 2-ssec, the first four in 54 l-ssec and the last four in 55 l-ssec. Royal Lancer will be ridden in the Awarua Handicap on Saturday by P. J. Boyle, who will have a 51b allowance. Boyle was successful on Royal Lancer in the Wairio Cup. Waitoru has two engagements at the meeting, but his programme has not been decided If he starts in the'Awarua Handicap he will be ridden by W. F. Ellis. Aspire finished a length in front of Gnohill over seven furlongs in lmin 38 2-ssec, the last four in 55 2-ssec, but Gnohill could have done better, Gnohill has two engagements on Saturday, but it is likely that he will contest' the Bluff Handicap instead of the Myross Handicap, in which his stable mate. Royal Chorus, will be a runner.

Riding engagements for Saturday include the following:—J. L. Strathern—Sea Ladv. Southern Sail, and Rifle Range; K. Ford, Heidelberg; P. J, Boyle—Royal Lancer. Pride o' Central, and Triple Cone; D. A. Hamill, Wild Career; R. A. Gibson. Royal Chorus; W. F. Ellis—Waitoru (l£ started in the Awarua Handicap), Lucky Feather, and probably Gold Robe; T J. Boyle. Astral Flame 'and Spendthrift.
