LADY GALWAY GUILD

OTAGO’S GIFTS OF CLOTHING GRATITUDE OF BOMBED CITIES Warm appreciation of the assistance given by the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild of Otago, which forwarded a large supply of clothes, blankets, and other goods to the New Zealand High Commissioner in London (Mr W. J. Jordan) for distribution in bombed areas is expressed in two letters received by the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) from Coventry and Bristol, two of the centres in which the Otago contributions have been distributed. The letters, which have been sent by representatives of the Women’s Voluntary Services for Civil Defence, are as follows: — “ I have received the lovely parcel of clothing so kindly sent to the homeless people of Coventry by the people of Otago. These have now been distributed, and I can assure you that they were very welcome and much appreciated. I shall be obliged if you will be kind enough to convey our grateful thanks to the people.—Pearl Hi Hyde, Chief Officer.” ‘ . “ The Women’s Voluntary Service clothing depot, Bristol, sends very warm thanks to the people of Otago, New Zealand, for their splendid contributions of clothing. The bombed people are so grateful, and. the W.V.S. are so grateful, too, to feel that through your kindness and generosity they can help in alleviating some of the acute distress that has been caused by enemy action. Our greetings to you all, which we ask the Mayor to convey to you.”
