GIFTS FOR TROOPS

UNADDRESSED PARCELS 100,000 SENT OVERSEAS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Apl. 29. Three main despatches of unaddressed gift parcels received through the provincial patriotic councils of the Dominion have now been sent overseas for the New Zealand forces by the National Patriotic Fund Board. In all, the total number of these parcels sent to date is nearly 100.000. The scheme was introduced by the board to ensure that all members of the Dominion’s, fighting forces would receive a parcel from home at intervals, and has been ah unqualified success. Many letters have been received by the board from Major-general B. C. Freyberg, V.C., general officer commanding the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force, down to the humblest private expressing apppreciation of the system and the nature of the parcels. They provide a close link with New Zealand, and, every time they arrive, a striking reminder of the goodwill of the people of the Dominion generally to the men of the fighting forces, as well as. an indication that the service they are giving is not being forgotten by those they have left behind.
