WOMEN ON LOCAL BODIES

rq THE EDIXOH Sir,—May I write a few words of appreciation of those women who were brave enough to call a meeting"to discuss the important question of the utilisation of the services of women as members of local bodies. The services of a few women (preferably those who have faced the problem of raising a •fair-sized family on a limited income) would be of. great value not only to our City Council, but also to our Government. Reared by a pioneer woman in a large family, I saw a shining example of common sense., The result is many healthy descendants who are not a drain on our hospital. boards or our country, but a decided asset regarding numbers. It is from women of this type that we need advice and help, but they do not need to be at the head of affairs. The wise woman is content to be the neck which turns the head.. Many good men have done well by consulting their women folk I am, etc., A Mother. Dunedin. April 29.
