Special .Train.—-A special train will be run in connection with the Oamaru Trotting Club’s meeting. Omitted From Acceptances.—Pearl Shell ■sor was omitted from the official acceptances for both trotting events at the Amberley meeting and Malapert scr was omitted from the Kowhai Handicap. Juvenile Stakes.—The Oamaru Trotting Club's Juvenile Stakes, of £SOO, has met with the excellent reward of 14 making the final payment. A field of attractively bred two-year-olds will supply a star attraction at the meeting White Globe.—ln winning the Glebe Unhoppled Trotters’ Handicap at Harold Park recently the champion trotting mare White Globe covered the two miles in 4mln 31 4-ssec. which improved on the race record, established in September. 1938, by Wallagalong, by 8 4-ssec White Globe won easing up by two lengths fr6m Flying Peter, with Debonair a length and a-half away, third. A fortnight before at Harold Park. White Globe established an Australian record for a trotter against time over one mile, running that distance in 2min Bsec. While most of the best pacers and trotters in Sydney make periodical visits out of the State to other meetings, G. B Noble, trainer of White Globe, has no aspirations in that direction “ White Globe under the present system of handicapping is well treated in Sydney,” said Noble "and I % intend to remain at home.” Encouragement.—There has always been an objection to early racing and without doubt It stands based on good grounds, but when two-year-olds race at the back of the season when they are verging on three-year-olds no great harm occurs. In order to bring about the encouragement of breeding it is obviously desirable that mating should follow on the lines adopted with, thoroughbreds and breeders should set their stock for the early foaling, which becomes a great asset in connection with early racing. In connection with early racing it is really commendable that the trotting clubs show a great and desirable lead to racing clubs by not providing racing for youngsters until the back end of the season. This is following the example established in England, where, in the ordinary course of events, the richest stakes were not provided until the season had been well advanced. By way ol contrast the John Grigg Stakes, run in September, was. after a few years’ experience, dropped. The English practice in racing could be adopted with general advantage to bloodstock in the future That, however, is by the way. The provision of the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes of £SOO stands as a great encouragement to breeding It is. of course, obivous that a breeder cannot hope to win valuable stakes with stock of a lop-sided pedigree, and hence races such as the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes provide a highly desirable incentive to breeding racehorses on commonsense lines Instead of expecting orchids to bloom on thistle pedigrees. RICCARTON NOTES AMBERLEY TRIALS (Special) CHRISTCHURCH. Apl. 29. The weather was cold but fine for the work at Riccarton this morning. Most of the galloping was done on the No. 8 grass track, which was slow. Don’t Forget dashed over halt a mile in 51 2-ssec, which proved one of the best efforts of the morning. His stable mates. Prudent Prince and Arabian Night, took 53sec, Stabilise 53 3-ssec, Square Cut, the Iliad—Cleaner gelding. 53 2-ssec. Waka went well to beat Rawhamal and Thoraide (Valkyrlan—June East gelding) in 52 4-ssec. Muffler galloped a mile, taking Imln

5 2-ssec for the last live furlongs. He is In good order. Eulogist went well over five furlongs in Imin 4 l-ssec, the last three in 39sec. Scarteen registered Imin 4 2-ssec, another smart effort, suggestive of an early return to form. Retrogression took imin 6 4-ssec for live furlongs, but he went from a stand, while he was pulling up at the end of the last three in 39 l-ssec, so it was a useful sprint. Shikari and Full Pitch registered Imin 5 l-ssec, the last three being done smartly in 38 4-ssec. Alias and Espionage followed in Imin 5 2-ssec, time that Nightglass and Greenbank equalled separately, while Mungatoon took Imin 5 4-ssec. Liane did Imin ssec, finishing strongly. Sham Boy and Hurry Girl were on terms at the end of five furlongs in Imin 4 4-ssec, but the former was going easily and may be worth following in early races. The Wrecker ran six furlongs in good style in Imin 18 l-ssec. Rue and Paper Note beat My Abbey in Imin 19sec, while Benevolent was much too good for Guilder and Grampian in Imin 19 2-ssec. On his recent track form Benevolent should soon be a winner, Donadea sprinted three furlongs in 38 2-ssec, and then was pulled up as his saddle had slipped The Sandwichman, who has been doing useful work for some time, jumped one hurdle, followed by four brush fences. It was his' first school since he resumed training, and he may be a good jumping prospect for the winter SOUTHLAND ACCEPTANCES (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Apl. 29.
