Superintendent’s Report The medical superintendent, Dr A. Kidd, reported that 16 patients had been admitted during September. 10 were discharged, two had died, and 135 remained at the end of the month. The majority of those remaining were doing well or improving. He reported on his visits to the different centres in the committees district during October, and recommended as suitable for admission to the sanatorium seven patients from Southland and one from South Canterbury. The ■ Hospital Boards’ Association forwarded a copy of the new domestic, workers’ award. ' The new rates of wages provided for an increase of 5 per cent, plus 2s 6d per week, extra for sleeping accommodation, the award to have effect from August 8. The Hospital Boards' Association advised that the majority of the hospital boards considered those employees whose wages had not been increased by 5 per cent, under the Arbitration Court s Order should, be granted a increase as from August 8, with grtnaximum Increase, of -£l7 10s a year. The medical superintendent forwarded for the committee’s consideration an increased scale of salaries for the nursing staff.—The committee decided that the question of making further increases in salaries and wages be deferred until next meeting, when particulars of costs are to be submitted by the secretary. Six tenders were received for painting work, and it was resolved to accept the tender of £857 4s from L. Vercoe, of Clyde. The architect was instructed to prepare and forward to the secretary for the approval of the medical superintendent and matron plans for alterations and additions to the Nurses’ Home. The quotation of £2OO 5s from the Breen Construction Company, Invercargill, for drainage work at the institution was accented, subject to the approval of the Department of Health Patients in Institution The secretary reported that at October 29 the Associated Boards had patients in the Institution as follows: —Southland 67, South Canterbury 21, Ashburton 14, Waitaki 13, South Otago 12, Vincent 4, and Maniototo 3. a total of 134. Since the previous meeting 10 patients from three hospital districts had been discharged. He also submitted a waiting list of 13 patients from two districts. The treasurer submitted statements of the committee’s receipts and payments for September, showing that at September 30 there was a credit balance of £224 5s sd. He also submitted a statement for the half-year ended on September 30, which showed the actual maintenance receipts to be £237 11s 3d, less than the estimate and the actual maintenance payments £B2O 2s lid above the estimate.
