The Awamoko-Georgctown Institute held a successful euchre evening recently. the object being to raise funds to provide a Christmas treat for the local children. Miss Laing (Dunedin) and Mrs E. King lied for the ladies’ prize, and Messrs A. McAulay and S. Knight were awarded the men’s prize. Consolations were awarded to Mrs E. Strachan and Mrs Smart, while Mrs W. G. Johnston won the competition prize. The financial result, aided by these contributions, was indeed gratifying.

The Sutton Institute held its monthly meeting on Saturday last, the vicepresident, Mrs Pedofsky, presiding. The motto was “ The darkest night never puts the stars out.” In response to the roll call, “A book or magazine for the force.” a parcel has been sent to the R.S.A., Dunedin, Members were pleased to receive a letter from Private Frank Weatherall, of Naseby. who wrote from Egypt thanking them for a parcel. Knitting wool was distributed. Reports were given by Mrs Kidd (“School for officers, at Gore”), and by Miss Kidd (“Half-yearly council meeting at Naseby”). A competition for shortbread resulted:—Mrs Kinsman 1, Mrs Johnstone 2, Miss Terry 3. Another competition was won by Mrs Brennsell. The hostesses were Mrs Pedofsky. and Mrs and Miss Kidd.
