COLD WITH INTERMITTENT F^AIN Forecast for Otago.— -The following official weather forecast for Otago, covering the ensuing 24 hours, was issued yesterday at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office in .Wellington:— A change. to- fresh to strong southerly winds daring the day. Weather cold and unsettled with intermittent rain. Seas rather rough to rough. Dominion. Forecast.— A vigorous depression is about to pass to the south of the South Island; Pressure-'is still low north of the Chatham Islands, while an anti-cyclone covers southern Australia. Weather becoming unsettled , over the South Island-and in the' Taranaki and Wellington provinces, with intermittent rain developing from the west and the'south. Some, heavy falls likely in Westland and" the far south. Conditions- over the remainder of the country, fair to cloudy. Temperatures moderate ,at, first but becoming colder in the south with , hail in places and with snow, on the southern ranges. Weather in Dunedin.— The sun shone brightly early yesterday morning but a strong breeze prevailed from the north and the sky became overcast. The maximum temperature was 57 degrees, but conditions became cooler in the afternoon. The barometer continued to fall and a heavy shower of rain which lasted for about an hour, fell during the evening. The barometer became. steady again later-in the evenr , ing and-at midnight the reading was 29.20 inches (989 millibars) . , Barometer, inches and millibars: 8 a.m., 29.55 (1001); noon, 29.40 (996); 6 p.m., 29.30 (992); midnight. 29.20 (989). Thermometer: .8 a.m., 53 degrees; noon, 54 degrees; 6 p.m., 52 degrees: midnight, 49 degrees. Maximum, 57 degrees; minimum, 48 degrees. Rainfall for 24 hours ended midnight yesterday—4oin. Sunshihe for 24 hours ended midnight yesterday: Before noon, 4hr 30min; after noon,-nil; total, 4hr 30mm.
