PRESBYTERY OF DUNEDIN
NEW MINISTER FOR OPOHO The Rev. N E. Oakley brought before a meeting of the Presbytery of Dunedin last night a call from Opoho to the Rev. J. G. S. Dunn, of Port Chalmers. Out of a roll of 119 members. 76 had signed the form of call. The commissioners from the charge testified to the heartiness of the invitation. Commissioners from the Port Chalmers congregation read a minute appreciative of Mr Dunn’s work. In view of his desire to accept the call to Opoho. the congregation regretfully decided to place no obstacle in Mr Dunn’s way. The call was placed in Mr Dunn’s hands and duly accepted. The service to induct Mr Dunn to the charge of Opoho was fixed for Thursday, December 5. Training College Hostel
The Rev. H. W. Turner, assistant minister of Knox Church, outlined a proposal to establish a hostel for men students of the Training College. The matter was in the embryonic stage, it was stated, but the presbytery expressed its sympathy with the endeavour. New Church at Wakari
The foundation stone of the new church at Wakari will be laid on November 26. It was stated that the help given by the congregations of the presbytery had been very encouraging, and the financial position of this new charge was very bright. Motion of Sympathy
The presbytery, passing a motion of sympathy with the widow and family of the Rev. P. B. Fraser, was reminded that to him. along with the Rev. J H. MacKenzie, belonged the honour of developing the Nelson system of Bible instruction in State schools, under which 90,000 children are taught the facts of the Scriptures.
