OBITUARY

MR F. HILLIKER Twice winner of the New Zealand Draughts Championship and runner-up on five occasions. Mr Frank Hilliker died yesterday at his residence in Lees street in his seventy-first year. He was well known as a tobacconist in Princes street south for many years. Mr Huliker won his first New Zealand Draughts Championship at Dunedin in 1908, and four years later he again gained the title at Wellington. He was runner-up for the championship in 1904 1910, 1913. 1920 and 1921, During recent years Mr Hilliker turned to chess, and. although he played few competitive games, he was a wellknown figure in the chess room at the Dunedin Athenaeum right up to th e time of his death. He was for many years associated with the Otago Temperance Reform Council, being secretary for a considerable period. He was a keen worker in the Band of Hope among children and in his earlier days was a Bible class leader of the Hanover Street Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife and a family of two sons and four daughters.
