WAIKOUAITI BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti Borough Council was held on Monday, the Mayor (Mr Andrew Fell) presiding. The district traffic manager, New Zealand Railways. Dunedin, wrote stating that, owing to a shortage of material, the department had been unable to replace damaged foot warmers, and consequently it was not possible at present to improve the heating in the early passenger trains to Dunedin.—Received. The borough balance sheet and statement of accounts for the year ended March 31 were returned by the Auditorgeneral, Wellington, certified correct, and were adopted. Advice was received from the secretary Otago Hospital Board, that the levy payable by the council for the current year would be £217 I3s 3d, a reduction of £4B Os 3d on the amount levied for the previous year. The clerk reported having received a cheque for £1 18s 2d from the Oamaru Borough Council, being a proportion of heavy traffic fees for the year ended May 31. The estimates for the current year, showing a proposed expenditure of £3106 15s 3d. were approved, and the council decided to make and levy at its next meeting a general rate of seven farthings and a special rate of three farthings in the £ on the capital rateable value of the rateable property in the borough, the rates to be payable in one sum on August 14. , , An application from T. W. Allcock for the issue of a slaughterhouse licence was approved. It was decided to offer the contractor for street maintenance an extension of his contract for one year from July 31. Accounts amounting *to £166 2s lid were passed for payment.
