Mr W. Norrie, of Dunedin, spent the week-end at Lawrence. Mr R. Palmer, of the Alexandra Post Office staff, has been transferred on promotion to Cromwell. Congratulations were extended by the City Council at its meeting last night to Cr D, G. McMillan. M.P., on his inclusion in the Cabinet. Mr E. Caradus, senior inspector of secondary schools, and Director of Educational Services, R.N.Z.A.F., was a passenger from Wellington by Union Airways yesterday. Constable Matheson, of Lawrence, is on annual leave, and is being relieved by Constable Black, of North Dunedin The Owaka Sub-association of the Returned Soldiers’ Association gave a send-off to Mr D. Fitchett, who has been a resident of Owaka for the past 12 years. Mr Fitchett, who had fbur years’ service in the Great War, has left to take up the position of motor driver in the Royal Air Force. A motion of sympathy with the relalives of the late Mr G. W. Slade, of Wellington, a former chairman of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, was carried y the Otago Rugby Union last evening. The president (Mr D. C. Jolly) said that Mr Slade was a great worker in the interests of Rugby football some years ago The air Paso manager lot PanAmerican Airways at Auckland, Mr A. L. Lewis, has been transferred on promotion to Manila where he will be section operations superin’'mdent for the company, and will be associated with the clippers engaged on the China route. It is expected that he will leave New Zealand early next week en route to Manila In succession to Mr Lewis, Mr W. J. Mullahey has arrived in Auckland to assume the duties of air base manager For some time he has held a corresponding position at Canton Island, one cf the stopping places on the south Pacific air route, which has been developed as a base by Pan-American Airways.
