Smith crossed the line, but lost possession, and Hammlll, who vyas handy, touched down for the opening score, for Devon to convert. Campbell then goaled for Excelsior, and Robinson made a brilliant run through the Maroon defence for Bee to score. A few minutes later he-repeated the performance to score himself between the posts, and Excelsior led 9—5. Brilliant play by the Maroon backs saw Collins score, and Park secured the final try from a forward rush. Devon adding the extra points in both cases, the final score being: Athletic 15 points. OAMARU SAVAGE CLUB ANNUAL MEETING Mr J. Macmillan, who presided at the annual meeting of the Oamaru Savage Club on Saturday night, was re-elected Great Chief for the ensuing year. A review of the club's activities disclosed that the membership had remained between 80 and 90, and there was a small credit balance at the end of the year. The outstanding event of the year was the celebration of the club’s tenth birthday, at which the Great Chiefs and representatives from Christchurch, Ashburton, South Canterbury and Waimate and Colonel A. E. Loach (Dominion secretary) were present, and badges were presented to Savages who had been members for 10 vears by Great Chief A. Todd (Dominion president). Visits had been received from South Canterbury and Waimate Savages, and raids made on Ashburton and Macandrew Bay. Appreciation was expressed of the services given by the Savage Orchestra. under Savage R. Jackson, and of Savage H. Benson’s assistance at the piano, and also of Savage Spooner’s work with the visitors' book. Savage C. Ewing joined the first echelon of the New Zealand Forces, and was serving in Egypt. Other office-bearers elected were as follows:—Scribe. Savage M. Thyne; Scalphunter, Savage C. E. Ferris; Council of Braves —Savages R. B. Nichols, M. H. R. Jones, G. Knowles, H. Hay, E. McDiarmid, M. Peat, A. Nuttall, S. Cameron, J. D. Familton, R. Stevenson and J. B. Purcell. KINEMA ENTERTAINMENTS MAJESTIC THEATRE “ Beau Geste.”—Thirteen years ago they made a film about the French Foreign Legion that set the standard for all Foreign Legion pictures—” Beau Geste. To-day’s remake of this unforgettable melodrama is just as unforgettable and just as melodramatic. In a season when big films are showing every week, “ Beau Geste,” now at the Majestic Theatre, stands out as top-rank kinematic entertainment. In the 1939-40 version, lean Gary Cooper tops the bill, with Ray Milland and Robert Preston in the principal supporting roles. The villainous Sergeant Markoff is brilliantly repainted by Brian Donlevy, one of the best “ heavies ” on the screen. Susan Hayward and Heather Thatcher are delightfully fitted for the two feminine performances in what is fundamentally a masculine picture. However, like so many virile screen stones, " Beau Geste ” is far from being purely masculine in its box-office appeal. All those great scenes which proved so effective in 1926—the manning of the desert fort with corpses, their discovery by the relief force, the death of the sergeant, the escape from the Arab-beleagured fort—they are equally as effective to-day. Plans are at the Bristola. OPERA HOUSE ‘ “ Hitler, Beast of Heflin.” —Showing finally to-night at the Opera House is the sensational drama, “ Hitler, Beast of Berlin.’ which was produced in America, a neutral country to reveal to the world true facts about the Nazi regime that have hitherto been suppressed by the Ges-tapo. The story concerns the activities of the German democrats, who still fight lor freedom, love of God, of family, and the things normal people hold dear. The picture portrays the life of a young German couple and their circle of mends, these people being portrayed by Roland Drew. Steffi Duna, Allan Ladd, and an immense international cast. “Money to Burn.”—Supporting Hitlei, Beast of' Berlin,” is the bright amusing Higgins family comedy, ” Money to Burn, starring the Greason family, Hairy Davenport, and cast. It Is a further episode of the hilarious life of the famous film family, and keeps the audience in laughs from beginning to end. HOCKEY SATURDAY'S RESULTS Rovers A 8 (Churchill 1.
