“Believe me, it was greatly appreciated by the men, and I’m sure that h&d some of the other boys been aware of the action they, too, would have asked for special leave,” stated one of the men training as n.c.o.’s for the second echelon who arrived in Hastings last week on special leave for Christmas. That he and others in Hastings and Napier had been able to arrive so early in their homes was due to the thoughtfulness of the Hawke’s Bay Patriotic Council, which arranged for a car to meet the men at Wai~ pukurau and bring them on to their home towns.
