THEFT OF AMMUNITION
RAID BY REPUBLICANS TROOPS RECOVER PORTION LONDON, Dec. 27. Dublin was ringed by steel from dawn, as the military tightened the cordon in order to ascertain the whereabouts of 1,000,000 rounds of ammunition stolen on December 23. Armoured cars patrolled the roads and the troops examined every passing vehicle. They found a ton of the missing ammunition hidden at Wicklow. from which the search extended to Kildare, Carlow, and Kilkenny, while Government agents investigated suspected houses in Dublin. Nine members ,of the magazine guards were detained pending the conclusion of the inquiry, and five suspects have been remanded in connection with the raid. A drive against Republican supporters has been launched in Belfast, but no arrests have been made. Raiding the Eire Army's magazine at Fort Phoenix Park, Dublin, Irish Republican Army supporters secured a large quantity of arms, ammunition, and equipment. The raiders overpowered the guard and filled up lorries.
