FRENCH FORCES
A SECTION DEMOBILISED THE ALLIES’ TACTICS GREATER USE OF MACHINES (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) PARIS, Oct. 29. Ten thousand “ old soldiers ” and men with four or more children marched from their barracks and returned to civilian life while icy rain, snow, mud, and rising rivers enforced the calm on ail parts of the front. Those demobilised have been ordered to be ready to return to the colours instantly. Officers and specialists among them remained with the colours. The start of the demobilisation indicates that the High Command is confident of carrying out a campaign of using machines more than men, with the Maginot fortress troops ready to take the shock of any German offensive.
A French war communique stated: “ There was reduced activity throughout the night.” The German high command communique states: “There have been no special happenings on the Western Front.”
