OMAKAU

The Weather Since the snowfall of last Tuesday mild weather has been experienced, with occasional high winds. Much of the snow which covered the ranges is disappearing. Rugby Football At Omakau on Saturday a challenge match for the White Horse Cup was played between Matakanui (holders) and Alexandra, resulting in a win f t or kanui by 3 points to nil. N. Chatto Creek School The tree-planting ceremony in connection with the Centenary was held at the Chatto Creek School on Friday afternoon A number of trees were planted by the pupils and their parents. Musical items we?e presented by the children at the conclusion of the ceremony. Week-end Camp A large number of members of the Otago Mounted Rifles from Omakau and surrounding districts held a week-end camp at Oturehua. Captain Davis and S.S.M. McLennaghan were in charge of the camp. Damage by Snow A gang of linesmen from the Post and Telegraph Department were kept busy for a few davs repairing damage to telephone and toll lines caused by last week’s snowstorm. The repairs involved the practical rebuilding of nearly a mile of line on the Omakau-Ophir road, while a number of breaks in the Lauder district were also dealt with.
