WRESTLING

NEXT MONDAY’S CONTEST Bhu Finder, the Indian • wrestler from Lahore, British India, created something of a stir in wrestling circles when he opened his New. Zealand tour with a defeat of Blomfield, and then proceeded to hold Earl McCready to a draw for the British Empire Championship. Finder, unlike the other wrestlers in this year’s team, did not come to New Zealand by arrangement with the Dominion Wrestling Union. So confident was he in his own prowess that he arrived unexpectedly and asked for an opportunity to wrestle for the Championship of the British Empire, which he hoped to take back to India. How close he came to winning that title is demonstrated by the fact that McCready, contrary to his usual practice, was obliged to resort to elbow jolting in order to secure an equalising fall. Rube Wright, who will meet Finder on Monday night, created a favourable impression on his first appearance in Dunedin when McCready was seen working “ all out ” to keep Wright from taking the verdict. Although McCready was declared the winner on a narrow margin of points, Wright showed that he is a match for McCready in every way, and with two or three bouts which he has had since, he should prove even more difficult for Finder, as he is now used to local conditions. Further particulars are advertised. FINDER BEATS JONES (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH. Sept. 6. Prince Bhu Finder to-night beat Paul Jones in a professional wrestling match. Finder took one fall in the fifth round with an Indian crab, and throughout the match was much the faster. Jones was below his usual standard. Despite showmanship, the bout was sometimes lifeless. MARTINEZ DISQUALIFIED (Per United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. Sept. 6. Ignacio Martinez was disqualified for punching in the seventh round of a wrestling match with Lofty Blomfield at Hawera to-night. Martinez had taken a fall in the third round with a Spanish death knot. Blomfield equalised in the fifth by rolling back when held in a full Nelson anplied with the legs and forcing Martinez’s shoulders to the mat.
