SCOUT NOTES

'HEADQUARTER’S NOTICES All district activities are cancelled until further notice. Troop meetings will be held as usual. All combined officers are requested to meet at headquarters on Tuesday at 8 p.m. As this meeting is of the greatest importance attendance is earnestly requested. Duncan (GI.), F. Shaw. R. Bartlett, I. Allen (O.B.). GROUP REPORTS 2nd Dunedin (Mornington) Troop visited St. Andrews, where, after several games. Mr Stuart, of the St John Ambulance along with some of his pupils, gave an interesting demonstration of how street accidents and various kinds of casualties were treated Jamboree patrols were then allotted and parade dismissed with the Promise 3rd Dunedin (Ravensbourne).—The troop paraded with a good muster of 23 Scouts. After inspection instruction period was followed by ringball. During the evening S.M. Payton paid a visit and gave an interesting yarn

on the Jamboree. The weekly competition was won by the Bulldogs. sth Dunedin (Ocean Beach).—After Flagbreak the various patrols went to work at signalling, ambulance and splicing. Skipper Reilly was a visitor and taught two Australian games which, with several variations, were similar to dodgeball. Commissioners Wing and Holderness inspected the troop during the evening. Announcements and Flagdown closed the even ing. 6th Dunedin (Mosgiel).—Twentytwo Scouts were inspected by P.L Tweedie. It was announced that a football match would be played against Green Island on Saturday and boxing instruction would be given by Mr Gil lan on next parade night. After handball Jamboree boys were allotted to various patrols and Scouter taught a new haka On Tuesday P.L.’s and seconds learnt about their camper's badge from S.M. Clark of Green Island. A busy week was concluded 6n Wednesday when several boys cycled to Whare Flat for manuka for “ gadgets ” and nractised some signal ling. 7th Dunedin (Anderson’s Bay) Sea Scouts had a fair attendance last week After Flagbreak the troop was split up into two sections for Morse and pioneering Half an hour’s games programme was followed by the promise On Wednesday boys went to the Gardens to load poles for shipment for the Jamboree for tent noles. On Friday portion ol the troop went for a hike to Flagstaff and surrounding districts 9th Dunedin (Mohican) Troop activi ties began with inspection and games Square lashing and knots were then revised. After roll-call more games were followed by a talk from Commissioner Wing. A C.O.H was held after dismissal, suggestions being for another concert and dance. C. Hall and B. Lavson have passed their marksman badge and the latter was congratulated on winning the recent elocution championship at the Competitions. 10th Dunedin (Green Island).—A large attendance paraded six full patrols answering roll call. After work in patrol corners the ambulance squad went for instruction and the rest of the troop carried on with general work A special practice of singing was held for the concert on Saturday

13th Dunedin (N.E.V.) Troop.—Tenderfoot and second class tests , have been passed by several of the boys during the last week Others are working for their first class badge Entries for the hobbies were fair, several boys gaining awards A good time was hr#l at the hand-soccer tournament at North Dunedin. Progress has been made with the tumbling and a trapeze with which good exercise is gained. Holv Name Pack.—The school holi-

days were responsible for the absence of g few Cubs, so games occupied most of the evening. Signalling was practised for a short time. An interesting Cub story, read by A.C.M Ryan, brought the meeting to a close. Two Holy Name Scouts were welcome visitors.

Wesley Troop.—Arrangements for the programme was left to the Owl patrol, a good night being held D.S.M Mclndoe took boys for metropolitan inspection, and S.M. Hunter judged some camp gadgets and spoke briefly on their value S.M Lomas was also a visitor

Lawrence Troop.—Work has been carried on during the month, chiefly first aid work, as new Scouts have not had this branch of Scouting yet. Boxing has been the favourite pastime, and song around the campfire have been practised A new competition has been arranged, the winning natrol to hold the flag for a month. On August 24. 19 Scouts under Scouter Phelan “hiked” to Tuapeka Bush to cut manuka for chairs for the camp at Wellington. An enjoyable day was spent with games and a campfire Another such hike will be held next week

Ocean Beach Rovers.—The Mornington crew paid a visit to the crew last Wednesday, when Mr Harris of the Traffic Department gave a talk on traffic control, and explained some little-known points of the law ■ After Mr Harris had answered questions, the meeting closed with a vigorous game of handball

4th North Dunedin Rovers—Work is progressing steadily on the Rover den at George street. It will be some time before the den will be ready for occupation but meetings will bo carried on till then When finished, the den will bo for Rovers only, and it is hoped that it will be complete with workbench and library

9th Dunedin . (Mohicans).—Cubs answered Akela’s call last Wednesday Inspection was followed by roll call and a game of grab. Kim then took second star work, Akela taking first star work L. Coster and E Islip passed their knotting test Relay races followed a spolline bee which the Cubs enjoyed. The Promise and Grand Howl brought the evening to a close Wesley Cub Pack.—A good muster answered Akela’s call Karels taking inspection. Work was then done in lairs. Chil taking second stat Karela tenderpads and Akela first star work After this, tumbling exercises and games took up the remainder ot the parade, which closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
