HELP FOR THE FARMER
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Now that Britain has declared war against Germany how does the Government, which is crying out for more production, expect the farmers to meet its wishes? Production on the farms is decreasing and the Govern ment has only itself to blame because of the way it has treated tht farmers Now Sir. it has a chance to assist the farmer by taking the farm hands off public works putting them on the land and paying part of then wages. If a farmer can nay £1 let the Government nay the balance of the wages as the National Government did during the depression and assist the farmer as quickly as It put the petrol tax on him. As a practical wheat farmer, I cannot afforfl to pay
the wages for labour and all the extra expense that has been put on the farmer, and there are hundreds in the same position. Therefore, if the Government intends helping the farmer, it is not too late to get hundreds of acres of land put in wheat.— I am, etc., Wheat Farmer. Central Otago.
