HOUSE SHORTAGE
PROVISION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE OPPOSITION MEMBER'S SUGGESTION <FromvOur Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Aug. 22. Advice to the Government not to think exclusively of elderly people, but instead to make some provision for housing for the young folk now growing ud was given bv Mr T. D. Burnett (Opposition, Temuka) during the Financial debate in the House of Representatives to-day. Mr Burnett suggested that the social security taxation paid by young people should be earmarked by the Government and put into housing projects so that when the young folk had reached marriageable age they would have an interest in a home in which to start life. This, he said, would be better than thinking overmuch of elderly people. The present social security scheme with the proportion of young people declining was putting the cart before the horse. A Government member: Is that the new policy of the National Party? Mr Burnett: No. Over here we are free to say anything we think for the advancement of the people of New Zealand.
