SCOTTISH REGIMENT
ALLIANCE WITH BLACK WATCH APPROVED THE DUNEDIN COMPANY Overtures were made last September, through the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London (Mr W. J. Jordan) to the Black Watch Regiment (Royal Highland Regiment) with a view to establishing an alliance between that unit and the New Zealand Scottish Regiment. The colonel of the Black Watch, General Sir Archibald R. Cameron, intimated that there was no regimental objection to the alliance, and that the Queen (as colonei-in-chief) had expressed her approval. Formal application for the alliance was then submitted through the Governor-General (Viscount Galway) and his Excellency has now received advice that the King has been pleased to approve of it. Medical examinations of recruits for the Dunedin Company have now been completed, and the company will commence training on Monday, at 7.30 p.m. Owing to the excellent response to the call for recruits and the particularly fine type of recruit offering, the Recruiting Committee had a difficult task in making final selections. This was done, however, by setting a very high physical standard, resulting in the selection being confined to recruits of sft Bin and above. Those who have not received notice of selection will be placed on the waiting list, unless the applicant advises the adjutant to the contrary. The total number of applicants to date is 205.
