NEW TUG

LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD A COMPARISON OF COSTS (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June 8. Similar in appearance but more sturdy in design, the Lyttelton Harbour Board’s new tug, Lyttelton 11. arrived at Lyttelton this morning from Glasgow, where she was built. The new tug was built at a cost of £58,000, as compared with £13,980 for the present' tug in 1906. In length the new tug is the same. 115 feet, but she is 29 feet in width, compared with 25 feet, and her depth is 14 feet against 13 feet. The most important improvement in the new tug is an increase in her power which is 1500 h.p. as compared with 1000 h.p. of the old vessel. The tug sailed from Glasgow on March 27, and had a stormy passage down the Australian coast and across the Tasman.
