TWO HOLDS FLOODED DISTRESS SIGNALS SENT OUT BRISBANE. June 8. The steamer Fotini Carras (446 tons), bound from New Caledonia to Bowen, struck the South Bellona reef, 250 miles from New Caledonia. Distress signals stated that two holds were flooded, and that the ship was five feet down by the head. The nearest ship is 350 miles awav VESSEL SPEEDING TO SCENE BRISBANE, June 8. (Received June 9, at 1 a.m.) Radio messages report that the Swedish steamer Potini Carras. of 4466 tons, struck the middle of Bellona Reef, and is partly awash. The crew numbers between 30 and 40. It was bound for Bowen, Queensland, from New Caledonia. Coastal vessls throughout last night picked up distress signals from the Potini Carras, and the Danish vessel Australien is proceeding to the scene at full speed, but will be unable to reach the stranded vessel until to-morrow afternoon.
