MEMBERSHIP OF THIRTY THOUSAND DOMINION CONFERENCE The annual conference of the New Zealand Workers’ ;Union, the largest industrial organisation in the Dominion, with a membership of, more than 30,000, will be held in Wellington, beginning on June 27. It is expected that the conference will bfr opened by the Minister of PublicWorks (Mr R. Semple). Only one ballot was conducted for the official positions, the national secretary Mr A. Cook, being returned by a large majority over Mr A. T. de Cleene (Palmerston North). Mr R. Eddy (Wellington) was returned unopposed as national president, and Mr C. E. Baldwin (Christchurch) was returned unopposed as vice-president. Several hundred remits will be considered by the conference. In addi-. tion, more than 1000 remits have bean received concerning agreements for f public works employees, which have now expired, and on which negotiations are at present in progress with the ■ Government. The agreement [for,; shearers has also expired, and nego-. tiations for a new agreement are to be set in motion. v
