The town clerk, Dunedin, advised that the council's application for an extension of the hours of street lighting in the borough had been granted. The street lamps would henceforth be kept lighted until daylight, there-being no extra charge for this service.—Received. .
J. S. Bell, Sawyers' Bay, wrote complaining of the state of the road leading to nis property.—Received., The secretary of the • Burkes-St. Leonards Water Committee ' Wrote asking that a report on the i cost of bringing water to the from Dunedin, as requested by a deputation to the council last October, should be provided.—Received, the clerk . being instructed to give as much information as possible on the subject/ The annual report on the DunedinPort Chalmers main highway was submitted by the borough engineer,. (Mr F. J. Williams). The expenditure on this highway for the period 'had amounted to £2641 17s 3d. The maintenance work had - been attended to, and the extensive use of plant-mixed materials had provided a better nonskid surface.—Received., v " Football Club's Deputation, A, deputation from the Ravensbourne Rugby Football. Club waited on; the council. Mr P. Davis explained that the club wished to build a clubrdom on to the pavilion, with the'object _of catering for the players socially. He asked that the council should grant the club the use of the Town Hall, in which a bazaar to raise funds could be held. He also asked that the Recreation Ground should be maintained as a park.—Mr A. Grant endorsed Mr Davis's remarks, and stated th; the club had spent, a considerable sum in providing drainage for the ground. He urged the council to give the club more assistance, both in improvements to the . ground, such .as blocking the creek, which flooded the area at times, and in actual support. It was to the council's advantage to make the ground more than a mere "hay paddock."—The Mayor assured the deputation that the club's requests would be gone into. Inspector's Report
The inspector reported that the following work had been carried out during the month:—ln Hill street north ruts were filled in and 15 yards of. screenings spread. The footpath was regraded and seven yards and a-nalr of toppings spread. Michie street water tables were cleaned and the road regraded to Mr Withers's residence. Ross street was regraded and five yards of metal spread and the footpath regraded and dressed with five yards of toppings. In Stewart street the water tables were cleaned; 174 yards of metal spread on the road; . the footpath regraded and two yards and a-half of toppings spread Roseneath water tables were cleaned and 10 yards of toppings were spread on the footpath. At Moller Park posts were erected, the footbridge renewed, and the old pavilion demolished and removed to the yard. In St. Leonards water tables were cleaned and several footpaths regraddd at the intersection of the Main highway. The' grader was over the Junction road and the men are now cleaning the water tables. Surplus metal was raked up in Athol place, Grant street and Montague street. Stanley street was scarified and five yards of screenings and two yards and a-half of dust were spread. A blow-out in the water main at the intersection of Ascog road and Montague street was repairedand also a leaky stop-valve at Athol.place. The.water mains were flushed out. but at times the pressure is poor on the higher levels Noxious weeds, were cut back on the highway between Maia and Burkes. Ah inspection was made of the road opposite Mrs Williamson's property, St. Leonards, and this will be rectified when the storm water sewer is completed.
