Reports ot meeting ut branches are requested but they should be furnished promptly for the publication of reports that are not supplied within a week from the date of the meeting cannot be promised. The motto at the monthly meeting of the Awamoko-Georgetown Institute was. “Hats off to the past, coats off to the future.’’ Mrs Hart, who presided, was thanked for her kindness in entertaining the members to a picture party. A lantern lecture given by Mr J. C. Kirkness on his recent trip abroad was much enjoyed. * y- y The Roxburgh Institute held its monthly meeting on May 10, Mrs Waters presiding. • Mrs Rae gave a report of the Mid-Otago Federation meeting. The roll call was, “Your birthplace.” A "thrift" competition resulted:—Mrs Rae and Mrs Waters (equal) 1, Mrs J. Graham 3, Mrs Kenworthy 4. The hostesses were Mesdames Kinaston. Dunlay. Craig. Elliot, and Miss Kinaston. Interesting readings were given by Mesdames Tamblyn. Frazer, Graham, Mercer, and McKnight. The link letter from England was read by Mrs Waters. A community sing followed.
The May meeting of the Palmerston Institute was held on Thursday last, Mrs Forrest presiding. Miss Cameron gave a report on the annual meeting of the Mid Otago Conference. It was decided that a donation be forwarded to the Women’s Centennial Memorial Fund. The motto was: “Be swift in keeping tryst with kindness,” and the roll call, “ Suggestions for the birthday party.” Miss W. Fraser gave a demonstration on first aid The competitions resulted: —Best bouquet— Miss Hitchcock 1, Miss Diack 2; best bloom' —Miss Diack 1. A handsome vase was presented to an April bride with the best wishes of members. The hostesses were Mesdames Chalmers, Finnic, Forrest, jun., A. H. McGregor, and Miss Diack.
The Janefield Institute held its monthly meeting on Thursday . last, when Mrs W. Roberts occupied the chair. The motto was: “He who never makes mistakes never makes anything.” Mrs W. Roberts gave an account of the Mid-Otago Federation meeting. The roll call was: What I would do with £5.” Mrs Bowie gaye an interesting talk on her holiday in the North Island, and many interesting photographs were shown. The Waiplata Institute held its monthly meeting on Thursday last, Mrs F. Roberts presiding and welcoming members of the Naseby and Kyeburn Institutes. The motto was: “It is a rule of the Infinite that as you give of your best the best will come back to you.” The roll call was: “A washing day dinner." Mrs Strode (Kyeburn) read a paper on “Helium and Humanity,” and Miss Crutchley (Kyeburn) read a letter from the Otago Pioneer Women’s Memorial Association. A report of the MidCtago Federation meeting was given by the delegate, Mrs Kirby. The competitions resulted: —Jar of preserved fruit —Mrs G. Mathias 1, Miss A. Roberts 2: worked toilet set—Miss A. Roberts 1, Mrs D. Hore 2. Another competition was won by Mrs Fowler (Naseby). Members recently enjoyed a demonstration on cane work, given by Mrs Sparks.
