SHOP ASSISTANTS' BALL

SUCCESSFUL INITIAL EFFORT So successful was the Shop Assistants’ Ball, held on Tuesday night in the Town Hall, that it has been decided to make the function an annual event. Those present enjoyed a few hours’ dancing in a setting verdant with palms and ferns, large baskets of these being suspended at intervals from the gallery. The stage resembled a leafy bower, with sea and sky—presented pictorially—in the background Crimson and primrose streamers supplied an effective note of colour. To change a pillow-slip undo the fastened or tucked-in end, and put the clean slip over that end without pulling off the soiled one. Pull the clean slip right up, then catch hold of the soiled slip from the end opposite its opening and remove it. By this method no dust or feathers fly.
