There was a light frost in parts of the city yesterday morning, but the morning and afternoon were fine and sunny, with no wind. Temperatures were cool, the maximum being 52deg, and the barometer rose steadily to 30.55 in at midnight. A cloudless sky. with a light and variable wind, was experienced today. the maximum temperature being f!4deg. The barometric pressure was exceptionally high, with a reading at 5 p.m. of 30.48 in (1032 millibars). WELLINGTON, May 17. It was beautifully fine and sunny today, with little cloud or wind. The temperatures were rather cool, the maximum being 54.5 deg. At 3 p.m. the barometer reading was 1032.7 millibars. CHRISTCHURCH, May 17. To-day the weather was fine and cold, although the sun shone for the greater part of the day. There was a light to moderate north-easterly wind. The maximum temperature was 52.6 deg.
