W., Kingston.—Cultivation and removal of all roots is the only certain method of destroying convolvulus. The growth above ground can be destroyed by spraying, but the roots will speedily send up new growth. "Anxious,” Balclutha.—(l) It is anticipated that the new consolidated school in Clutha Valley will be open for the first term in February, 1959. (2) It is customary to call tor tenders for the conveyance of children to consolidated schools, but where tenders are not regarded as satisfactory the Education Board may make other arrangements, and in some cases teachers convey children to school. A. W., Palmerston.—The disease is bladder plum (Taphrina prunl). Spray with Bordeaux mixture or lime-sulphur when buds begin to swell. A mixture of 6ioz blucslone, sJoz lime and tour gallons of water will make that quantity of Bordeaux mixture. This disease is only partially controlled by spraying, and the treatment should be supplemented by the cutting out of infected shoots All wounded surfaces should be painted over as soon as they are made with coal tar, a stiff brush being used '• Inquirer," Dunedin.—Mr W. Earnshaw was first returned to Parliament as member for Peninsula on December 5, 1890, defeating Mr W. J M. Larnach At the following election, on November 28, 1893, he was returned with Messrs D. Pinkerton and W. Hutchison as the Labour ticket" for Dunedin City combined electorate. At the election on December 4, 1896, he was seventh in a list of 12 candidates for Dunedin City, the successful aspirants being Messrs M. J. Scobie Mackenzie, J. A. Millar and H. S. Fish.
