CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING

WELLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIPS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 28. A record entry of approximately 160 runners participated in the Wellington Provincial Cross-country Championships over the new Silverstream course. The Scottish Club teams won both the A and B Grades. G. Prosser (Brooklyn) repealed last year’s performance and again won the individual honours. WEST COAST CHAMPIONSHIP (Per United Press Association) PALMERSTON N., Aug. 27. The West Coast (North Island) Harrier Championship was won by C. Weller (Palmerston North). His time was 35min 17sec over a course of 6i miles. This was Weller’s sixth win in seven years: AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 27. J, W. Savidan won the Auckland Provincial Harrier Cross-country Championship, leading from end to end.

“800-hoos” from a small group at Mr S. G. Smith’s political meeting in Palmerston North Opera House last week greeted the speaker, but his happy handling of the interrupters provided a good start for the address. “ Thank you for the Taranaki welcome,” shouted the visitor through the microphone. “In my district Brindle, Strawberry, and Brownie make the same noises in the cow yard—l feel quite at home."
