DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS

The Dunedin Competitions Society’s thirty-seventh annual festival will be held from August 17 to September 3. An attractive syllabus has been arranged for this year’s festival, special features being the grand opera ana, the Gilbert and Sullivan contest, the piano concerto, verse-speaking choir, ladies’ choir and firms’ choir contests, ballets, and the usual elocutionary, instrumental. vocal, and dancing items. It is anticipated that good entries will be received for the impromptu speech and debate contests. The society has secured the services of the Trinity Colhge examiners (Dr Lyon and Dr Ford), who will judge the instrumental and vocal sections. Mr J. W. Bailey (Auckland) will judge the elocution sections and Miss Gwen Gibbs (Palmerston North) the dancing sections. Entries will close next Thursday, and the syllabus and entry forms may be obtained at Begg’s, or from Mr E. S. Wilson, secretary, T. and G. Buildings, Princes street
