FROZEN BANK ACCOUNTS
A SCOTSMAN WHO FORGOT (From Our Own Correspondent) SYDNEY, Nov. 16. The Commonwealth Bank has confessed that it has been unable to persuade a Scotsman to accept money—and what is more, his own money. Mr Samuel McSporran, of Brisbane, has had an account of £1 12s lOd in the Brisbane office for so long that nobody remembers him or where he is to be found Mr McSporran’s bawbees have been transferred with the savings of many others to the unclaimed funds account. Altogether several thousand forgotten Commonwealth Bank deposits, amounting to more than £II,OOO, were recently transferred to the unclaimed funds account. The largest individual unclaimed amount was for £633. the deposit of two Queenslanders. There were many amounts ranging between £2OO and £3OO. Included in the list of persons who have overlooked their accounts are Robert Ernest Clothier and Ethel May Clothier, of Perth, who have £1 4s 3d in a joint account. In official quarters it is suspected that Mr Clothier is identical with the Robert Ernest Clothier, of Perth, recently elected to the Senate. The Rt. Rev. John Heavy, Bishop of Cooktown, has failed to claim £271 10s, and that has gone the same way as Mr McSporran’s £ I 12s lOd. Almost at the end of the list, under the heading of the Rabaul branch, is an announcement that Porekom lias lost £47 2s lid. It is stated that Porekom is a native, but it is not explained how he came by so much money or why he has never collected it.
