TOC H FESTIVAL

THE LIGHTING OF LAMPS FIVE FOR NEW ZEALAND LONDON, Nov. 30. Five new Australian and five New Zealand Toe H lamps will be lighted by Viscount Halifax on behalf of the King at the annual festival at York on December 11. They will include Christchurch North, Wellington South, Invercargill, Timaru and New Plymouth lamps. Dr Bowerbank, chairman of the New Zealand executive, will bear Wellington South’s lamp. The annual world chain of light will begin with the lighting of the Calcutta lamp at 9 p.m. on December 11 (local tiipe). The ceremony will move in a westerly direction, and the lighting will take place at 9 p.m. (local time) on December 12 in all centres in New Zealand and Australia.

The Rev. P. T. Clayton, in a message to New Zealand and Australia, said: “The living force of 30,000 members of Toe H is proving that the movement has achieved victory over other forms of memorial. Stone is losing its power and influence in the popular imagination.”
